Perhaps you are looking for stress reduction and/or transformation. Different people will have different goals. You may have a quite specific goal that can actually be accomplished in a very few sessions (for example relief from PTSD and phobias). Therapy may take something of a coaching form as you work toward a longer-term goal. Or, you may want to do some deep self-exploration (or even spiritual exploration) over an extended period of time. Therapy should be flexible and goals can be adjusted. As a whole, psychotherapy should lead you to a sense of accomplishment and greater well-being. And a basic aim of each and every session is that you leave feeling better than when you came, with a sense something has changed.
